Referring to the fact that he was partying until 4.30 am on Monday night, the 46-year-old blamed his late night on long time friend MARIELLA FROSTRUP.
“Mariella made me drink because that’s her job,” he quipped.
“But I’m Irish so it’s in my blood.”
And on spotting his London drinking partner he joked; “It’s her. That’s Satan, right there.”
George looked as dashing as ever at the Leicester Square bash, despite having to get up early this morning to meet Prime Minister GORDON BROWN.
His secret?
“If you continue drinking you don’t get a hangover,” he grinned.
“My parents taught me that.”
Mariella also confirmed it had been a late night but said: “George never lets an appointment in the morning stand in the way of a good time.”
The London square was a glamorous sight as the female fans made that extra effort for Gorgeous George, with many braving the cold in strapless dresses and mini-skirts.
Some had been there since six in the morning but they got their reward, as the star spent half an hour on the red carpet, talking to fans and posing for photos.
Leatherheads co-star RENEE ZELLWEGER arrived at the last minute and rushed into the cinema.
But it was a case of I’ll Do Anything for George, as the contestants from the ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER show swarmed round him in the foyer.
