McKayla Maroney is an American retired artistic gymnast and Olympic medalist. Born on September 10, 1995, she rose to fame after winning the vault gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2011 World Championships. Maroney also won two golds and one silver at the 2011 World Championships. Her gymnastics career was marked by impressive tumbling passes and precise landings. Unfortunately, she suffered a serious back injury in 2013, forcing her to retire from the sport at a relatively young age.
