Erika Alexander – “American Fiction” Screening in New York 12/10/2023

“American Fiction” is a 2023 American comedy-drama film directed by Cord Jefferson and produced by MGM Studios and Orion Pictures. The film is based on the 2001 novel “Erasure” by Percival Everett and stars Jeffrey Wright as Monk, a frustrated novelist who is fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain. The film confronts our culture’s obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes and features a stellar cast, including Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, and Sterling K. Brown. “American Fiction” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2023, where it won the People’s Choice Award. The film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release in the United States on December 15, 2023, with an expansion the following week (December 22, 2023).
