At the 2026 Met Gala in New York City, Rebecca Hall chose a custom Tom Ford black tuxedo look – and the sharp tailoring is either restrained or too restrained.
Sleek. Maybe too sleek.
At the Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 04, 2026, Rebecca Hall arrived for the red carpet arrivals in a custom Tom Ford look designed by Haider Ackermann. It’s a sharply tailored, all-black celebrity look built around a tuxedo jacket and a long, fitted skirt – and it plays things very controlled for a night themed around “Costume Art.”
The jacket is cut with strong, padded shoulders and a clean, nipped waist. Black sequined embroidery trims the lapels, catching the light in a subtle shimmer rather than flashing outright. Underneath, she wears a cropped top that leaves a narrow strip of midriff exposed, which keeps the look from feeling overly traditional.
Then there’s the skirt. It’s floor-length and flares slightly at the hem, hugging the hips before widening just enough to create shape. The lines are smooth and uninterrupted, almost severe. If you were hoping for spectacle, this isn’t it.
Accessories stay disciplined. A black sequined clutch mirrors the jacket detail, and a diamond and dark-stone choker sits high at the neck, adding contrast against the deep V of the jacket. The bold dark red lip is the only real jolt of color – and honestly, it does a lot of the heavy lifting visually.
Seen here, Rebecca Hall at the Met Gala looks poised and intentional. Coordinated with Morgan Spector in matching black Tom Ford, the message is unity and restraint.
But here’s my hesitation. For a theme inviting guests to treat the body as art, this feels almost conservative. It’s elegant. It’s sharp. I’m just not convinced it fully commits.
Within the broader celebrity red carpet lineup, this is the quiet entry.
Would you have pushed this further into drama, or is the restraint exactly what makes it work?
The shoulders are strong, but the risk level stays low.

The poor thing. I think she’s bought into the “can’t be too rich or too thin” and the slimming black does not help. The dress itself is gorgeous but the severe hair and too red lipstick do her no favors.
