The top half is doing a lot. Maybe too much.
At the 11th Hollywood Beauty Awards in Los Angeles on April 10, 2026, Jessi Draper hit the red carpet arrivals in a deep navy gown with a straight, strapless neckline and a glossy, body-hugging skirt. Then you notice the bodice overlay: a darker, beaded drape that sits like a separate piece across the chest, with a heavier, sparkly edge that frames the top.
And here’s where I’m not fully convinced. The draped beading is attention-grabbing, sure, but it also competes with the rest of the dress instead of finishing it. I might be wrong, but if that overlay were cleaner (or the skirt were simpler), the whole thing would look more intentional.
The skirt itself has a gathered detail at the hip and a very high slit trimmed with a glittery border. It’s a classic “leg moment,” and it’s effective—no argument there. But stacked with the beaded bodice, the dress starts to feel like two ideas sharing one zipper.
Accessories are kept minimal: drop earrings, rings, and metallic platform sandals. So yes, the styling team knew to back off elsewhere. Still, the dress is already loud enough.
Because this is a beauty awards carpet, a sleek, single-focus gown would’ve hit harder.
Reader challenge time: would you keep the beaded bodice drape, or strip it back and let the navy silhouette speak?
